load bearing wallFrom: tntsas143@msn.com Category: Alternative Building Techniques Email: tntsas143@msn.com Remote Name: 147.206.5.1 Date: 07 May 2007 Time: 06:22 PM
CommentsI have a home that is in a L shape, a detached garage sits in the front of the house, (in front of the small leg of the L. Making the house look square.A covered patio was added on by previous owner, putting 2x12's coming from garage to house on top of a header of this load bearing wall of the house. (He was going to build a 2- story addition). I want to knock out that front wall. It contains the front door and a window. I know I have to put up a beam to support the roof and 2x12's added, but not sure what size beam to use. The distance of the wall is about 20' by a normal 8' height. I did not want to put columns, I want it to be one big room.
The length of the 2x12's are 12'.
