source for more details on hot tubs and decksFrom: dmcneil7@yahoo.com Category: Decks Email: dmcneil7@yahoo.com Remote Name: 24.117.129.10 Date: 28 Mar 2007 Time: 12:05 AM
Commentsi've read some books on building a deck. in the chapters on hot tubs, they all give vague answers like, "be sure to add more bracing", or "be sure your footings/ joists, etc, will support the extra weight." are there more detailed information or formulas available to the general public on this??
by the way, i'm planning on a 16'x24' composite deck, four 6x6 posts with 12"x 5' concrete footings supporting the triple 2"x12" beam, 2"x10" joists 16"oc. 3' cantilever(ie, 13' from beam to ledger and 3' overhang.
the hottub area will only be about 13'x10', so that portion could be cantilevered to give 11' from beam to ledger with a 2' overhang. the stairs will take up the other 3'.
