Hello, I am installing insulation to my open beam ceiling home. Here is what I have. I have when looking up at my ceiling the boards for my living room. Now on top of that I am putting a 4 inch foam layer to help keep my room cooler in the summer. I have made wooden box's to place the foam into. They are 5 1/2 inches inside measurements to give me a 1 to 1 1/2 air barrier and then I sealed that in with a ½ inch 5 ply plywood with a polar aluminum layer on one side of the plywood facing down. I then have whatever the felt layer is that is used in roofing and on top of that I have my asphalt shingles. My question is can I put an extra layer of the felt material under my foam layer? I am looking to keep small bits of dust and dirt from falling into my room and if I had the layers set up with my ceiling boards a felt layer and then the foam with the plywood on top of that with another layer of felt with finally my singles or tiles. Would I be causing myself problems with this ? I am told that if I add that one extra layer of felt on top of my ceiling boards that I will have problems with moisture inside the box with the foam. I will have vents at the bottom gutter edge of the box’s and vents outside on the top edge to give air a chance to move inside these insulation box’s. I hope this all makes some since... Thank You Gary
