Re: House on Piers - Replacing Old LatticeFrom: ep2755@yahoo.com CommentsQuestion: I have a 2-story house on brick piers 9 feet off the ground. From the ground to the bottom of the house had vinyl lattice work. I am looking for an alternative way to cover this area. Any ideas? Builders WebsourceŽ Answer: Is your home located in a flood or hurricane-prone area? Is the underside of the home used as a parking area? If you live in an area with moderate climate and you're simply looking for a more attractive alternative to the old vinyl lattice, consider installing an attractive wood lattice built from 2x2s on 12" centers (both vertical and horizontal). Apply an oil-based protective penetrating stain to complement your existing house. Then, plant some attractive vines, roses, or ivy to grace the lattice. Star Jasmine also makes an aromatic choice that creeps and winds its way along woodwork without growing damaging suckers. Always check with your local nursery to help select the right plants for your region. If you'd like a more modern look, other architectural options exists, such as commercial-grade stainless steel cables and cross-clamps. You'll sometimes see these on commercial structures and landscaping projects. Builders WebsourceŽ |
