Marble flooring on interior rampFrom: jbpettit@penza.com Category: Flooring Remote Name: 68.167.194.186 Date: 06 Sep 2005 Time: 04:10 PM
CommentsI am an architect in search of advice. My client is a public institution that owns many older buildings. In one of those buildings we are proposing
to construct a ramp to provide access to the disabled. The existing floor is marble and we have been instructed by the client to use marble on the ramp to match the pattern and colors that are existing elsewhere in that area. The slope of the ramp is to be 8.33% (1:12) and the length of the ramp is to be 18 feet. The ramp is well inside the building and the only water that is likely to hit the ramp is from drink spills. Nonetheless, I am very much concerned about people slipping on the sloped surface. Is it adequate to indicate that the finish of the marble to be used on the ramp is to be “honed” or is there more specific terminology that will communicate our desire to obtain a non-slip surface? Or is it even possible to obtain a non-slip surface (assuming proper maintenance, of course)?
