Re: door harware gradeFrom: richb@tullbrothers.com Category: Windows and Doors Remote Name: 64.252.115.140 Date: 16 Aug 2005 Time: 09:48 AM
CommentsTypically, a residential grade lockset works fine for a several years. A Grade 1 cylindrical lockset, commomly found in schools and large office buildings hold up very well to the abuse of a public area, but are often only available for 1-3/4" thick doors. A Grade 2 lockset, common in smaller offices will also hold up quite well in a residential enviroment. Mortised locks will last for 50+ years but are reletively expensive. Your design options are more limted with the higher grade locks. They generally have a very commercial or industrial look.
