Steel beam vs Wood beam for deck on waterfront

I am building a deck on the waterfront which has shoreline protection of rocks & gabion basket with the water level a couple of feet below. However during winter ice does build up so I was wondering if wood beams would suffice or instead steel beams should be considered?
