Question: I have a half wall between my living room and dining room. The top half is spindles. If this were a load bearing wall it wouldn't be spindled. Am I thinking right or should I do more research before removing?

Answer: Load-bearing walls are normally at least 2x4 construction. Small spindles would be decorative. However, if you have a post, such as a 4x4 post along any point in the wall that goes from top to bottom, this could be a load-bearing post. The half wall you describe is unlikely to be supporting any significant load. Always use precaution when removing any walls, even if they appear innocuous.
