Water hammerFrom: sharp47@jobe.net Category: Plumbing Remote Name: 208.31.189.17 Date: 04 Jun 2005 Time: 10:17 AM
CommentsI have what I think in a water hammer problem. I hooked on to our neighbors well. We ran a 1" schedule 40 pVC pipe over 150' to our house from the neighbors outside faucet. We had to hook on there because there was a check valve somewhere under the ground that prevented us from hooking on at the well.
I have been told different things from different well contractors and no one has told me to use a hammer arrester.
I my house where the water line goes from a 1" to 1/2" line just approximately 10' from there I can hear a water hammer or at least the pipes moving every time the well pump kicks on and also when it kicks off. It is a little worse when the pump kicks off. I can also hear the same thing when I turn off the water in the shower is the basement.
I was told by the last well contractor I needed a very small 1/2 gal. suppression tank put on before where we hear the hammer. What do you think about this. What do you suggest to take care of my problem.
I have 1/2" PVC pipe in our house and my basement is complete finished except in the furnace room which is where we can get to the water lines before they go all the rooms in the house.
Please advise.
Thank you.
