Architectural Foam Window (exterior) problem\stuccoFrom: sweet2not@yahoo.com Category: Windows and Doors Remote Name: 172.194.65.113 Date: 19 May 2005 Time: 11:18 AM
CommentsI purchased in California a new tract home in January 2004. During the rain season of 2004 and 2005, a whitish-colored substance appeared on the exterior of several different windows. These windows are located on both opposing walls. These 2 walls have the highest elevation of the 4 walls. This substance came from under the exterior top of the architectural foam window framing. The rain was able to sheet down the walls and penetrate behind the top of the foam architecture of the window and drive this substance onto the exterior windows. My concern is why is so much water able to penetrate behind the foam architecture, and is this a natural occurrance? Our builder states that the substance is efflorescence and therefore is not under warranty; however the substance could also be an adhesive used to adhere the foam architecture. Regardless of the substance, is it alright for water on the exterior walls to run behind the foam architecture? Thus far 18 homes (same model) in this small tract are experiencing this same problem.
