cinder block house AND rigid foam board insulationFrom: lkzzzyyy@hotmail.com Category: Structural Remote Name: 128.104.205.79 Date: 19 Apr 2005 Time: 12:17 PM
CommentsI have a cinder block house that needs insulation. I would like to use 2 1/2 inch polyisocyanurate board sheathing attached to the outside with a stucco board over that. Is it worthwhile to spray polyisocyanurate foam inside the cinder blocks? will the open cavity of the cinder block trap cold air in the block? I think it will be tricky to know if the foam has filled the cavities, is there a device that can detect the changed density inside the block? And I don't want to drill holes in the cinder block if they are not needed. I think I won't be able to attach the board without drilling holes in the cinder block also. If I use fasteners, what should they be and if I use adhesive, what kind should I get? Will a vapor barrier make a difference? Is interior insulation like fiberglass batts effective in this kind of house?
