mocification of I-beam support - BasementFrom: vze2fn5v@verizon.net Category: Select Category From List.... Remote Name: 68.160.212.110 Date: 27 Mar 2005 Time: 11:43 PM
CommentsI have an 8 inch x 3.5 inch steel I-beam 30 ft long, on concrete walls, supporting a one story wood frame living area. There is a 3.5 inch steel suport post centered under the beam. I wish to cut out the post and put two new steel house jacks, one 7 ft to the right and one 6 feet to the left of the current post to take the load. The Floor was poured in 1950 and is about 6 iches thick. Do I need to put in footings (size?) or can I use a 1/4 thick x12 x 12 (or 18) inch steel plate under each jack to spread the force? Or can I just put in the two jacks?
Regards, Glenn Howard, Glen Cove NY
