Re: leveling a house that has settled in the centerFrom: Category: Select Category From List.... Remote Name: 146.115.100.32 Date: 08 Jan 2005 Time: 02:50 AM
CommentsMore than likely your problem is more complicated. I would think the fundamental cause is lack of a proper footing under the support columns. In many house designs these footings are poured as a single continuous long footing. In others they may be large square pad type footings. The slab is pour over them.
So if that is the case, jacking the beam and shimming the support columns will only give temporary relief. Somehow, you must understand how the floor slab / footing system is designed and built. In many older houses or ones with improper footings, the fix is to temporary rig helper support columns, remove the column(s) in question, break the slab and excavate for new footings.
Usually this also means you need some sort of design help and guidance.
