middle support pole in garageFrom: rigsha97@yahoo.com Category: Select Category From List.... Remote Name: 24.210.191.143 Date: 29 Nov 2004 Time: 10:36 AM
CommentsI live in a home that has a middle support pole in the garage that won't allow a second car to parked in it. There is a bedroom above that is 21'x21'. The floor consists of 2'x8' on 16"centers. It has a 4"x10" steel I-beam that spans all the way across 21'. One side of the beam is 12' to the wall and 9' to the other side(which would be the garage door side). The steel beam rests on each end by 2 2'x4's put together. I have a peaked roof and have been told that the roof is supported by the foundation. So the question is...I would like to remove the middle support so I could use that side of the garage. I am wondering if it is needed or if it is overkill. I have been told that is for vibration so the floor doesn't flex. Any information would help thank you.
