Re: French DrainsFrom: hawkeye1201@yahoo.com Category: Drainage/Waterproofing Remote Name: 12.216.22.161 Date: 01 Nov 2004 Time: 07:10 PM
CommentsIt is best to have a dry basement with proper drainage of surface water away from the house and a proper foundation drain. Surface drainage is usually not very difficult to achieve, but fixing a foundation drain is difficult and expensive. The french drain is an indication that water is leaking into the basement. However, if the water is controlled by the french drain it is not necessarily a bad thing. One technique to solve a leaky basement is to drill holes in the wall and let the water into the basement so it can be controlled, usually by routing it to a sump and pumping it out. If you have the water under control you can forget about it and go on to other things.
What does the seller say about the french drain?
