I am currently interested in finishing a room above my garage and need some help on finding the best product for supporting the upstairs load. It measures 20 foot long and 22 foot wide rafter to rafter. The 22 foot wide span has 2 X 8's measuring 14" across. There is currently no middle support and will be a bedroom. I have added 6" strips of 3/4 " plywood to both sides of the 2 X 8's (8' long) to firm the load. In the garage, I believe I need to add a beam to hold up the load. The measurement is 20'6" across and 10' high. I'd prefer not to put a middle support if possible. Thanks a lot.
