Recently I remodeled the kitchen in my San Diego circa '66 townhome, and had a buddy that's an electrician do the wiring. We noticed that kinda funky about the wires. They were incased in metal flex-tubing with a hot and nutrual but there was a aluminum ground wire. I thought it was a bit odd but didn't think much of it. I stopped and talked to a contractor that was doing work he in my complex and he said that this type of wiring was obsolete and and that the aluminum wire was not a ground. What type of wiring is this? Is it dangerous, i.e., a fire hazard? Are there certain precautions that I need to take? He said something about needing to use all metal J boxes. What can you tell me? Thanks, Michael
