Comments20 feet is some hulking header! Is 20 feet the free span with no supports? Do you suspect the header is not strong enough?
You have to know the loads on the header to determine if it is adequate. How big is the room above and what all supports the room? If there are floor joists 90 degrees to the header and sitting on all three 2x12's they each share the loads. The three 2x12's are nailed to each other to prevent or minimize twisting of the header. Nailing should do the job...there is no real benefit to putting bolts through the header.
