I want to finish an attic but the floor joists are only 2x6's with a 12' span. I need to reinforce the floor by "sistering" 2x8's but I don't want the floor load on the new 2x8's to transfer to the plaster that is attached to the existing 2x6's. What is the recommended number of nails required to get the sistered joists to act as one? Is it advisable or necessary to use structural adhesive in addition to nailing?
