Hello, I need to build a support beam for a shade structure that is 22 feet wide. It will be supported on either side by the roof of the house. This beam will be one of two main supports for the entire shade structure. Is there a formula I can use to calculate the size of the beam? Also, is there a method by which shorter lengths of wood (say 2x8x12) could be fastened together to span the full width? Thank You...
