Sagging FloorFrom: insouciantd@yahoo.com Category: Structural Remote Name: 66.181.94.5 Date: 26 Aug 2004 Time: 03:49 PM
CommentsWe recently moved into the third floor apartment of a relatively old house. For whatever reason (we're renting, and were in a bit of a hurry to find a place), I didn't notice a severely the floor sagged in our kitchen and bathroom. I don't know how to "measure" the sag (I'm not in the building trade), but it's visible to the naked eye. More specifically, the sag seems to center where the refrigerator abuts the wall (on the opposite side of the wall is the bathroom and plumbing fixtures).
I'm concerned that the floor is bearing too much weight (with the refrigerator and bathroom) in that area, or at least more than it was designed to carry (I believe our apartment is a converted attic).
Can anyone tell me how to "measure" the sag, and how serious it is (ie., how likely is it the floor might collapse?)?
Thanks for your help.
