Water Heaters: Tankless vs. TraditionalFrom: valandkelly@ev1.net Category: Plumbing Remote Name: 130.76.96.14 Date: 28 Jul 2004 Time: 02:34 PM
CommentsWe currently just bought a large house and the 50 gal water heater just isn't meeting demand. It's 13 years old and probably is full of sentiment. Before I replace it, I thought I'd investigate a tankless system. Our house has 4.5 baths and 3 adults and 3 children. The current water heater doesn't meet the demand of 2 baths at once let alone trying to fill the single soaking tub.
What are my options? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each system? Can I mix the two systems by using a booster on some of the baths in tandem with the traditional water heater or do I have to go with either a tradtional or a tankless system? Since the tankless system is heating the water in line, does it take longer for the hot water to get to you then a traditional system? Two of the baths are very far from the water heater, can I just place a booster system in for those two rooms? If I decide on a tankless system, will I need a booster for the baths that are on the far side of the house from the heater? How do I determine the flow rate of my showers? Thank you for any information.
