I am thinking about installing hardwood floors in my upstairs bedrooms. I know that wood contracts and expands and the installers will leave gaps along the walls to allow for this movement. I read that the interior humidity of a home should be between 35 and 55 percent. I bought a digital hydgrometer to find out what the humidity in the bedrooms is. In the morning it is around 58% and in the late afternoon/evening it is in the 42-45% Is it normal to have such a range? I run a dehumidifier in the basement and it fills every other day or so. Thanks for your help.
