Is painting required for rust proofing of steel lintels supporting brick over windows? I know that membrains are required on top of the lintels under the bricks to provide a moister barrier. But is painting of the other side that is exposed to the exterior also needed? Or is the primer and other treatment to the steel enough to guard against rust?
