Drainage problem around foundation

This is what I found out after I brought the house: 1. area was swampy 2. trench has formed at the foundation where the water sprinklers are located. I planned to shut off the water sprinklers in this area. 3. foundation is wet where the ground is soft; put my hand in dirt and water appears Do I need to install a french drain? Thanks
