Dry Well

I am looking into buying a house that has a dry well in the lawn which has had a concrete surface poured over it. We would like to extend a driveway made of concrete or blacktop that would run over the top of the concrete covered dry well. Would it be safe to drive over it as well as parking over it. What concerns might there be? This home was built in 1880 and I have no idea when the dry well was placed there, or how big it is or how deep it is. Any suggestions of where to start or what to do would be most appreciated. Thank you.
