It's comforting to hear that it is not neccessary, based on the lack of energy benefits, but I still may do it for protection from the elements. Maybe my cars will thank me... hehehe I also have a hose bib in the garage and the insulation may keep it from freezing in the winter. That is, if I choose to keep the water valve open through the winter. Thank you very much for taking the time to reply!
