house foundation replacementFrom: bboucher@baysideengineering.com Category: Concrete Remote Name: 66.200.147.226 Date: 17 May 2004 Time: 05:45 PM
CommentsI have a house that is over 150 years old. Its foundation is part fieldstone/rubble and part brick masonry. It is in disrepair. We want to lower the basement floor to provide a little more head room and some storage (it presently has an earthen floor). If we try to replace 4 foot or 8 foot sections of the wall with concrete wall and footing, we figure that the load bearing walls above wont be affected. Eventually, the whole foundation will be replaced and we can pour a floor slab. Is this a do-able plan and is there a good step-by-step procedure that can be used as a start?
