Replacing 18' section of foundationFrom: cesmythe@frontiernet.net Category: Foundations and Basements Remote Name: 65.73.0.81 Date: 10 Apr 2004 Time: 02:55 AM
CommentsI have just purchased a 54-year-old ranch. ˝ is basement the other is crawl space. One basement wall has cracked & bowed a few inches from the sill to ground level. (the cause was poor drainage & has been corrected) The crack is 18" from the main triple joist. Therefore, I am considering taking on the project of jacking and replacing an 18' section of wall with block myself. Using the existing joist as a jacking point simplifies the job.
Concerns of wall cracking are not an issue since my renovation plans are to upgrade the electric, insulation and sheetrock all walls & ceilings in phase 2 of my renovation.
This will save me several thousand dollars at least. I'm looking for suggestions on the steps not only for proper jacking, but to rebuild the section of foundation wall.
After reading previous posts and doing research, I am confident the conditions are excellent for this being a do it yourselfer project.
Thank you, Charlie
