Foundation Reinforcement when removing Load Bearing walls

I am in the process of preparing to remove a load bearing wall from my home. I suspect I will be needing to reinforce the foundation where span the load is transfered to the floor. The foundation is a slab foundation with no basement or crawl space. The construction throughout the home is concrete block -- even on interior, non loaded walls. It's a single story home, so the load is limited. I am in Albuquerque, in a quite flat area, it's sandy, and the frost depth is around 18 inches. Can somone provide me with an overview of the process of foundation reinforcement in my situation? I realize my numbers don't permit details -- but I'm having trouble even finding a good overview. I would very much appriciate some direction. Thank you.
