Re: Deck strength for a hot tub? From: scotts1174@aol.com Category: Decks Remote Name: 152.163.253.7 Date: 05 Apr 2004 Time: 12:40 AM
CommentsRegarding: 'Deck strength for a hot tub' from September 2002. I was told by the company we bought the hot tub (same dimensions) that it should be strong enough to hold 150psf. I am considering adding to my deck the same size (16'x16') but am wondering on the footing size. I was thinking my 6 footings 12" diameter, 48" deep with 6x6 posts. Was going to build it out of 2x12 joists, 12" on center with two (2) 2x12 beams running across the posts. I guess I'm wondering if the footing size is sufficient at 12" diam. 48" deep (below the frost line) being located in Minnesota. My other part to this is that I have a gradual slope and was told that I may need to go deeper than 48" since there is a slope, gradual or steep. Is this true?
