foundation settlingFrom: cscameron@iwon.com Category: Foundations and Basements Remote Name: 172.150.87.253 Date: 04 Apr 2004 Time: 08:37 PM
CommentsI have a rock foundation under what used to be a porch, but was enclosed 30 or more years ago. I have estimates for piering (both concrete and steel), but my brother-in-law (a new home builder who lives in another state) is not convinced that the 60+ year old rock will attach well to steel piers or work well with the concrete ones because I can't tell him how far below the frost line (if at at all) the foundation goes.
His suggestion was to take out the old rock wall and replace it with concrete block.
Does that sound like a good idea? Are his concerns about attaching steel piering to rock walls legitimate?
Thanks, Chris
