How to deal with problem contractorFrom: bnjguchi@sbcglobal.net Category: Electrical/Lighting Remote Name: 66.120.226.1 Date: 18 Mar 2004 Time: 07:02 PM
CommentsI recently hired a licensed contractor to do hardscape in my backyard which included placing an electrical outlet and switch on a planter wall. The work was completed about 6 months ago. Building permits were not pulled at the beginning of the project and we were cited. The permits were pulled at that time and the contractor provided the county inspector with information on the contruction as well as a visual inspection. It passed inspection and was signed off. Recently the electrical switch and outlet stopped working. The contractor was too busy to come out so he sent another company out to repair the problem (an electrician). The electrician inspected the problem and said he would not touch this project because the original work was improperly done and not to code and may require the concrete to be removed. My question is how should I proceed with this problem? What are my rights. Should I allow the original contractor to repair the problem? If so, how can I be sure it is fixed appropriately? Can I insist on an inspection? Any advise would be appriciated.
