Need for Gutters

I'm buying a new house in Florida and notice that the builder does not provide gutters. The house constuction is slab on grade so water in the basement is obviously not an issue but I'm wondering whether too much water in the vicinity of the footings will result in settlement. Is this a real concern or just theoretical? Could gutter simply be considered good insurance to avoid potential settlement problems?
