slab on grade foundation retrofitFrom: ih4800@cs.com Category: Alternative Building Techniques Remote Name: 152.163.252.199 Date: 15 Jan 2004 Time: 05:53 PM
CommentsI have a slab on grade in CT and want to place ICF'S up against the current "first floor" 2X4 studs/1/2" CDX, pour 8' walls and backfill as it is located in a saddle and would provide a full basement. I would then sister the existing floor joists with longer joists to rest atop the new foundation; from there I can go up two floors. Any opinions on if this will work? I should add that it is a non-conforming structure so tearing down and starting over is not an option. Furthermore the existing frost walls under the slab are marginal at best so new footings around the perimeter of the slab are definitely in order.
