Floor Joist supportFrom: oursea1@yahoo.com Category: Flooring Remote Name: 199.79.176.65 Date: 30 Dec 2003 Time: 09:35 AM
CommentsI have removed a pantry in my kitchen and found that three second floor joist join to one another another, which supports a three foot section of the second story flooring. These joist rested on the missing 3 foot Door Jam, but the flooring is solid above the door jam missing. Their was two 2X4's supporting the door jam that the joist rest on. I assume I need to place the old door jam with a new header under the joist and wanted to confirm that two 2&4's joined together and supported by the original 4&4 posts would serve as a header, since this is where two joists are nailed together and are not the end of the three floor joists in question. Another choice I have is to use a small metal beam instead of joined 2 X 4's. Any advise is appreciated.
