CommentsStructural work like this normally requires an engineeer to visit the site and plan the work out. One important item missing from your description is the location and the local building code that applies.
If these beams support the roof, the required live load is an impotant factor. In snowy mpountain locations the live load can be 70 to 110# per sq ft. 40-50 is more common and some southern locations allow only 25 or thereabouts.
What you have now sounds lightly structured to me.
Another alternative is to approach the local lumberyard and ask them to spec an LVL beam for the conditions you have - or will have with the change.
And a correction in your terminology - the supporting structural members are posts.
