Hi, Have a 3 car garage 30ft wide 25ft deep. There is a 4"x6" beam ( 3 10ft peices) in the center ( 12.5 ft from front to back ) holding up the roof the whole way across the 30ft span with 2 6x6 beams 10ft apart to hold them up where the 10ft 4x6's meet ( and ofcours one on either end of building). I wanted to remove the one 6x6 beam to make 2 bays full acess without a beam in the middle of the floor blocking the way. So I need to know what I can do to make it dissapear and make a 20 ft beam streatch the distance instead of 2 10ft beams with a center support. The roof is sloped slightly to the front 12ft high in back and 8 ft high in front. 2x are spaced 16inches apart on the roof. How thick should this 20ft beam be, and can I add support to the existing 4x6 to acheive this? If I made this confusing feel free to e-mail back for further info or maybe even a pic. Thank You fr you time.
