I-Beam Info Requested : Home SupportFrom: ahriman_@hotmail.com Category: Structural Remote Name: 66.186.161.236 Date: 27 Nov 2003 Time: 11:39 PM
CommentsI have a 32x24 (or so) 1.5 story cape.
Pictures can be seen here: http://www.box-family.com/images-albums/house/index.html .
There is a full foundation with a wooden carrier beam supporting the structure.
I am looking to remodel the basement to divide it in half (across the width) and create a living/rec room on one side and work area on the other.
There are currently support columns about every 8 feet, but I want to open the Rec room side up completely, and so want to put an I-beam in to support the structure over the rec room and remove the columns.
The I-beam will support the 1st floor (ground level), second floor, and roof for 12.5 feet with new columns on each end. What size I-Beam should I be looking at getting to support this structure for this distance??
