Sliding door header

I am replacing a window and door in a load bearing wall with a slider. Preferably a 7ft slider. This is in the basement and there are two floors above it, but this wall is only under a kithen bumpout (1 floor). Short joists run only from the main load bearing beam to this bumpout wall. While I only have space for an 8" header, the wall has 2x6 studs. Will a header made of 3 2x8s be sufficent?
