Laminated BeamsFrom: rogarrison@ptmc.net Category: Foundations and Basements Remote Name: 64.53.10.236 Date: 19 Nov 2003 Time: 04:32 PM
CommentsI want to replace 1 support pole in my basement and replace it with a laminated beam. The beam will span 18 feet from a block wall to the second support pole. It will support 3 - 2x8's with floor joists running 12 feet in either direction. Above the beam is a wall on the first floor with a door at the block wall end and 2 doors at the other end of the 18 feet. Above that is nothing since the roof is supported on the outside walls of the house. I want to try and keep the width of the beam to under 9" (10" at the most). Is this possible, and if so, how many beams would I have to put side by side?
