Re: Thermostat LocationFrom: chrisroush@iowatelecom.net Category: HVAC Remote Name: 69.66.69.64 Date: 07 Nov 2003 Time: 07:50 PM
CommentsI'm trying to find the answer to the thermostat location question. Can't find your answer to the question. So here's mine.
We are putting new ductwork in our 1919 solid masonry/brick farm house...air returns up on inside walls and registers next to outside walls on the floor.
The contractor moved the thermostat to the middle of the living room wall (5 ft. height), right above the only place the sofa can set. Not only can I not hang pictures above the sofa but I have to crawl on the sofa to try to read the thermostat (I'm only 5'2"...not to good eyesight either).
I wanted to move it around the corner to the inside dining room wall, out of the way. But, he said we couldn't because there's an air return on the wall above it (on the wall that meets it in the corner).
I read in Build it Right by M.E. Ferguson, "Normal practice is to put them (thermostats) more or less in the flow of air toward a return register."
Help!!! Please explain thermostat locations. Thanks!
Regina Roush
