The fact that your gable roof separated from your chimney during a storm indicates that the storm clearly overpowered the structure. You describe buckled fibreboard and 2x4s, as well as damaged flashing. Without seeing your damage first hand, it's difficult to assess the best way to repair it. However, any members that were structurally damaged or warped should be replaced, and the rest of the structure needs to be trued up. You may need to redo the flashing according to recommended practice as well as portions of the roofing that may have been damaged. You might consider the services of a licensed general contractor or roofing contractor. Whatever you do, you must ensure that your structure is watertight and that flashing is properly installed.
