Re: Rerouteing heating ducts from one heater to anotherFrom: info@builderswebsource.com Category: HVAC Remote Name: 67.161.42.13 Date: 10 Oct 2003 Time: 10:06 PM
CommentsWhether your existing furnace is sufficient to handle your entire basement and the rest of your home is questionable. Several factors come into play to determine the BTUs required to efficiently heat a home. These include the peak temperature differential, the amount and type of insulation on all surfaces, the number, R-value, and size of windows and doors, as well as the total volume to be heated. Rerouting heating ducts isn't always as simple as you may think. The size of the ducts are important. If you undersize your ducts, you will increase the velocity and the noise of the air...and you may potentially starve registers at the end of the run. We recommend that you invite a qualified HVAC contractor to measure your home and make a recommendation. Undersizing your furnace is potentially dangerous and it will not operate at peak efficiency during the colder months. Do it right and hire a competent engineer or contractor to run some calculations and design a system that will function well. Having zoned heating is usually more efficient since you can regulate the temperatures independently without wasting energy on portions of the home that are rarely used. Builders Websource.
