removing load wall vs rough framing doorFrom: rlin@micron.com Category: Carpentry and Framing Remote Name: 12.210.21.41 Date: 25 Sep 2003 Time: 01:54 AM
CommentsI am contemplating the removal of an 9 foot section from a load bearing wall seperating my kitchen from my living room. Is there any reason I couldn't treat the support structure as if I were framing a sliding door? That is to say, use a 4x12 header supported by trimmer studs tied to king studs. Perhaps add blocking to support the king studs and cut out the sole plate in the opening?
The wall supports 2 braces from the gable roof ridgeboard.
