I would like to use a steel beam in a garage, to support the second storey. The garage is 24 feet wide and 25 feet long. The beam will run the total length of 25 feet with no support except columns at end. There is a bonus room above and the walls are about 7 feet high, bearing on the outside walls downstairs. I am using 9 1/2" TJI floor joists, hanging from this central steel beam. Roof above is a 4/12 pitch. Project is in Seattle - I presume normal wind loads and light snow loads. What size beam should I use? Thanks.
