I'm attempting to get a permit for my Ham radio roof tower and antenna. The city wants to be sure that my tower (all 100 lbs of it, including the antenna) will not come through my roof and kill someone. I had a civil engineer do some calcs on the wind load. He determined that the downward pressure on the roof worse case (70+mph winds) was 340 lbs. That weight is distributed over four legs (42" O.C.), 85 lbs per leg. Each leg has a 2" x 6" foot about 10" long which rests on the roof. I've even gone under the roof and added 2" X 6" bracing under each leg between the rafters and also bolted each leg down through the bracing (photo available if needed). They won't accept what I've done unless an engineer signs off on it. That means hundreds of bucks, close to a thousand!!! If this roof can't take this small amount of extra weight, then it's not even safe for someone to walk on. Speaking of walking on it, I’m about 220 lbs. and I can walk/stand anywhere on the roof and in doing so, apply 220 lbs sq/ft. Any help appreciated. Dan
