I am building a 30 x 30 room addition. I will be putting 2x10 joist at 16" O.C. But my question is I would like to use a microlam beam instead of a metal beam for the center main support. The beam would be exactly at the 15' mark on the one side and it would need to strecth without any support in the middle a total of 19'5". Obviously it would have post on each end for that support. Iwas also going to continue the rest of the 10'5" span with a solid wall from floor to joist for the remainder of the 30'. Could you please let me know if this sounds doable. The lumber yard seems to think that (2) 1 7/8" x 11 7/8" microlam beams glued and nailed together would be more than enough support. Also there is no live loads on the floor above the beam. Just a simple bedroom and bath.
