attaching beam to concrete foundationFrom: aleksey@mit.edu Category: Select Category From List.... Remote Name: 18.82.1.139 Date: 23 Jul 2003 Time: 11:43 AM
CommentsI want to build attached deck, 15'x12', 3' from the ground. The deck is to be attached with its 15' side to concrete foundation. I want decking
to run perpendicular to the wall, therefore, beams
has to be perpendicular to the wall too. I plan to use 3 4x10 beams to span 11' (1' cantelivered)
to have 6.5' joist span (1' cantelivered on both sides). I want to make 3 posts to support far ends of my beams and I want to attach the other ends of the beam to the concrete foundation of the house. My question is: how best to attach the
beams to concrete. One way seem to be to install 15' 2x10 ledger and use standard double sized joist hangers to attach the beams, but I worry that it might be a too weak connection. Another way seem to be to run the ledger lower and attach beam on the top of it. Still I worry about too concentrated load on the ledger. I would prefer to install 3 heavy duty steel hangers
directly on concrete. If this is reasonable, can you advise where to find such hangers, and how to mount them. Thank you, -Aleksey
