Removing and replacing an old cast iron shower drainFrom: cmchenggua@aol.com Category: Plumbing Remote Name: 64.12.96.166 Date: 17 Jul 2003 Time: 09:39 PM
CommentsI am remodeling a bathroom and am preparing to construct my shower stall subfloor and install a new vinyl shower pan liner. The upper half drain flange and bolts are badly corroded with rust. The upper half of the old cast iron shower drain appears to have four bolts (one with a head and three with nubs). The upper half of the shower drain cannot be removed from the lower drain flange because there is no way to unscrew the corroded bolts. What would be the best way to remove the upper half of the drain and what can I replace it with in order to properly install a new shower pan liner? Or, do I need to replace both the upper half drain and lower drain flange, and how would I do this?
